What a Boxcar Averager actually does
A boxcar averager is a signal-processing instrument that integrates an input voltage over a defined window after a trigger delay, then averages that result across many repeated pulses — a technique used since the 1950s (originating with pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance experiments) to pull a clean signal out of a noisy one by suppressing high-frequency noise and averaging away everything that isn’t consistent from pulse to pulse. Stanford Research Systems’ SR200 series, including the SR-235 analog processor the AI250 BXR specifically references, became a standard piece of that lineage — instrumentation general-purpose enough to show up across pulsed-physics and test-and-measurement work, which is where the “vintage nuclear test equipment” framing AI Synthesis uses for it comes from.
Turning lab math into a fattening, crunching processor
