Maxon announced its Fall 2026 ecosystem release on 14 October, shipping 2027.0 versions of Cinema 4D, ZBrush, Redshift, Red Giant and Autograph together.
Ecosystem releases are usually a packaging exercise. This one contains two features that artists have been asking for long enough that their absence had become a running joke, and one quiet addition that may matter more than either.
Cinema 4D: a Scatter System that speaks MoGraph
Cinema 4D 2027.0 introduces a Scatter System — a Scatter Generator and Scatter Tag supporting distribution, filtering, clustering and transform controls, for populating environments with vegetation, rocks, debris and crowds.
Maxon calls it one of the product’s most requested capabilities, which is accurate and slightly understated. Scattering in Cinema 4D has until now meant cloner setups fighting their own instancing behaviour, or a third-party plug-in, or exporting the whole problem to another application.
The design decision that matters is the integration with MoGraph: scattered objects can be shaped, animated and influenced with the same Fields and Effectors that Cinema 4D artists already use for everything else. A scatter system that is its own island of controls would have been useful. One that is addressable by Fields means the scatter is animatable by the toolset you already know, and that is the difference between a feature and a workflow.
Also in the simulation system: Liquid FX, adding automatically generated foam, spray and bubbles that respond to the underlying liquid behaviour, rather than requiring a second simulation layered on top of the first. Maxon’s CEO David McGavran picked the example himself: “A few years ago, you couldn’t simulate a beer in Cinema 4D. Now you can pour it, foam it, spray it.”
Less headline-friendly but more consequential for anyone doing colour-critical work: the release deepens the Cinema 4D–Redshift connection with ACES 2.0 alignment improvements.
ZBrush: a UV editor, at last
ZBrush 2027.0 adds a UV Editor that lets artists create, edit and refine UVs without leaving ZBrush, with UDIM support and texel density controls.
For anyone who has not had to live with this: ZBrush’s UV story has historically been UV Master — an automated unwrapper that is remarkably good at guessing and gives you very little recourse when it guesses wrong. The standard workflow has been to sculpt in ZBrush, export, unwrap somewhere else, and come back. UDIM support and texel density controls are the two things that distinguish a professional UV tool from a convenience feature, and both are listed.
Maxon says the editor is built on technology from elsewhere in its own toolset, which is the practical argument for owning five applications: the UV code already existed, it just was not in this one.
Autograph gets MCP, and a Cinema 4D connection
The addition most likely to look significant in a year is in Autograph, Maxon’s compositing and motion-design application, which gains support for the Model Context Protocol and its first direct connection to Cinema 4D.
MCP is the protocol for letting AI models call tools and read application state. Putting it in a compositor means an assistant can, in principle, inspect and drive a project rather than just generate pictures to be imported into one. Maxon frames this as “deeper creative automation and cross-application workflows”, which is the careful version of the claim.
It is worth being precise about what has and has not been announced: MCP support is plumbing. What it is good for depends entirely on what gets built on top of it, and nothing in this release tells you that. But it is the first time a major motion-graphics application has shipped the plumbing at all, and the direct Cinema 4D link means the two ends of a real pipeline are now addressable from the same place.
The rest
Redshift gets faster render feedback — interactive responsiveness rather than final-frame throughput. Red Giant gets what Maxon describes as art-directable VFX: effects whose behaviour can be steered precisely instead of adjusted and re-run.
