The feature worth paying attention to

Quest can now automatically hide virtual hands and ignore their input when they get close to a physical keyboard, using a passthrough cut-out to show the real keyboard through the immersive Horizon Home environment. Paired with occlusion handling that tracks hands more reliably when they cross in front of each other, and finer per-finger precision for distinguishing specific gestures, the combined effect is a headset that’s trying to get out of its own way the moment you need to do something a virtual hand model would only get in the way of — like typing.

Why this is the actual trend

The bigger pattern across 2026’s XR releases is the same instinct showing up from every direction: Apple’s Vision Pro M5 refresh kept the same class-leading micro-OLED displays rather than chasing a bigger feature list, Samsung’s Galaxy XR shipped with Gemini-powered spatial AI and eye/hand tracking built for immediate real-world tasks rather than a walled-garden app store, and Meta pushed its more ambitious Quest 4 hardware out to 2027 rather than rush it.
