When Korg shipped Firmware 2.0 for the microKORG2, it quietly opened a door: a “User Oscillator” slot exposing the same Logue SDK-style synthesis engine that powers the company’s other digital-analog hybrids. German sound designer Synthmania just walked through it, releasing a pack of 25 custom oscillator models that give a mass-market synth a genuinely different sonic identity.

What’s actually in the pack

The User Oscillator pack isn’t a set of samples or wavetables layered on top of the synth’s existing sound engine — each of the 25 oscillators is a native .mk2unit model that plugs directly into the microKORG2’s DSP, where it responds normally to the synth’s own filters, envelopes, and modulation matrix. The waveforms themselves are single-cycle captures pulled from a mix of classic and modern hardware: the ARP Odyssey, Moog Matriarch, Roland SH-101, and Alesis Andromeda among them. Installation is librarian-based — no soldering, no case-cracking — though there’s a real tradeoff: unlike building a patch from scratch, there are no extra waveform-shaping parameters beyond selecting which of the 25 to use, an approach some reviewers have flagged as pricey at €29 for what amounts to a fixed set of tones.
