Someone Compiled an Entire NES Into the Weights of a Language Model
nesformer, a project by Dan Breunig building on Divyansh Agrawal's Qwenputer, compiles an NES's 6502 CPU and 2KB of work RAM directly into the weights of a stock Qwen3.5 language model — a 466.6M-parameter checkpoint with 9.3M nonzero parameters. No training happens; a compiler computes the weights, and the model's Gated DeltaNet state doubles as the console's memory, predicting the CPU's execution log one token at a time while a small host program reads the controller and draws the screen.
