This VR Fitness Study Skipped the Motion-Capture Suit and Used a Phone on a Tripod Instead
A new HCI study introduces a VR exergame system that gamifies High-Intensity Interval Training through 11 predefined combo moves, tracked by a tripod-mounted smartphone camera rather than motion-capture suits or headset sensors. A within-subject study of 20 participants found significantly higher enjoyment and immersion in VR versus non-VR sessions, while an MCP-based feedback server showed 87.5% agreement with a certified trainer's evaluations.
