Structural Affinity Fixes Cage Deformation by Coupling the Handles Instead of Penalising the Result
Cage-based deformation gives you a handful of handles to reshape a mesh, and optimisers that drive those handles usually need hand-tuned smoothness penalties to stop the cage folding through itself. A paper from Cambridge researchers changes the parameterisation instead: precompute an affinity matrix binding an inner control cage to a coarser outer one, and handle displacements propagate to their neighbours by construction.
