Hair has long been one of the more fragmented corners of the Blender add-on ecosystem — one tool for grooming strands, another for converting them to render-friendly geometry, a third for game-engine hair cards, each with its own learning curve and its own file format. BGEN Hair, released by M2ky (creator of the BGEN Picker animation tool), consolidates that pipeline into a single add-on: groom once, then choose strands for film, tubes for stylized work, or cards for real-time engines, without starting over for each output.
One groom, three outputs
The core workflow starts with parting lines drawn directly on the scalp to split hair into natural sections, followed by comb strokes that set direction and shape. From there, BGEN Hair exports to whichever representation the shot needs: full render strands, simplified tube geometry for stylized looks, or texture-mapped hair cards for game engines — the same groom feeding all three, rather than three separate grooming passes.
A dedicated Braids & Locs panel handles a category most grooming tools leave to manual strand placement, with built-in taper-fade tools for realistic transitions around the ears and neckline. The add-on also includes a real-gravity simulation system: lightweight guide strands simulate live in the viewport, with full strands following their movement, and baking plus collider support carried through to final renders.

Beyond human hair
Style presets are controlled by simple dials rather than raw parameter stacks, and a dedicated hair shader supports direct texture painting. Eight 2K hair-card texture sets ship ready for game-engine use, and the BGEN Hair Library lets artists browse and grow community-made hairstyles directly inside Blender. The toolset isn’t limited to human hair, either — M2ky lists feathers, scales, beads and grass among the groomable outputs, treating “hair” as a general-purpose strand system rather than a single-use character tool.
BGEN Hair combines and replaces M2ky’s earlier BGEN Groom, BGEN Flow and BGEN Card add-ons while staying compatible with files created in those tools, so existing projects aren’t orphaned by the consolidation. It’s a one-time purchase, compatible with Blender 4.5 and later — timed just ahead of Blender 5.3, scheduled for release on November 10.
